I set myself a goal of walking at least 5km each day, and using 4000kj to do it. It felt unrealistic, if I am honest. Especially finding the time to do it. Then I hurt my back, and hurt it again.
But, I focused on one step at a time. And…
The orange dots on the calendar above show when I hit or surpassed the 4000kj. On the 4th and the 6th I did not reach my 5km mark, but on many of the days I exceeded 10km. So not every day, but most of them.
This is a significant change for me. It is one small and manageable step that has made a huge difference to my stamina in life and playing golf.
But, it would be wrong of me to say this is all on me. It has taken a team, especially since for much of this month I have had a sore back. Tiff encouraged me out in the afternoon, and on most days I walked 2km with her. I walked my dog Shadow in the morning, and he was often insistent that I take him. I am happy to oblige. I tried to walk to my meetings, rather than drive. I used my treadmill under my standup desk, which can can both raise my heartrate to 90bpm and help me walk while I work. All of this helped me achieve this goal.
When I originally set the goal of walking 5km every day it felt too much, but near the end of the month, as I look at this summary, it has been more than achievable. Especially with a team around me.
See you out on the course,
Michael
